Yesterday we received a link to an analysis of the two world records set in Tokyo in the men's and women's 400IH.  Jose Sant in Montreal was our connector.   The English version has obviously been translated by a computer, but it is still very readable.  Great graphing of times and number of steps between hurdles of Warholm, Benjamin, McLaughlin and Muhammed..... and a look also at times between hurdles.  Sylvain Dubail is to  be applauded for this work.

A close look at those 400IH races in Tokyo (English Version)

French Version

And a comment from Richard Mach:

Richard Mach

Balls Out Warholm.  Blitzes the first 200, then trusts his Will to cover the second 200 w/o badly stopping down.  Look at the time interval covering the space between the 10th hurdle and the finish in comparison with Benjamin's.  Ditto with McLaughlin.  Mohammad was stopping down badly near the end.  And check that left leg of Sidney's loading up as she leans for the finish.  Notice how unready the world seems to be to pursue the over testorsteronized thing after Caster Semenya.  The 800m gal banished to run the long races like the 5000 m and blitzes everyone.  Whatever is the world going to do with all of this?    If the investigation were to restart .... how could it ever stop, Coe cannot be sleeping well over this.   Well... maybe he is.   Who is to say or not when the T levels are too high. Not one easy answer here.    A capital look from Montreal at both OG 400 IH finals.   Can't see Warholm not getting the AOY from T&FN.  Unless its Sydney.   Third in that list goes to Jamaican's Thompson-Herah.  Actually, those tattoos of hers put her up very close to second.  Can't forget they gave Flo Jo the 10.49 after her body changes as it did and despite broken wind gauge and estimated 7+ mph following wind at her back.  I don't recall seeing any women ever accelerate as ETH did running that 10.54 final at around 60-65 meters.   Shelley Anne looked like she was standing still for a moment.   Elaine simply moved away from them all.  Immensely gifted.  And running more or less flat footed since that awful achilles tear until late June -- it seemed -- of this year.    And then there is the immensely talented Athing Mu.   Words elude me here.  May she take down that ersatz 800 WR by the Czech, Jarmila Kratochvilova, who was in the 99% percentile of muscularity .... for men.  That cookie stands out like a sore thumb: 38 years and still standing. Who was asleep at the switch back then letting that go unchallenged and not dumped?  For Mu, Breathtaking athletic virtuosity.  Her progression in an Olympic year and hardly 19 {May} ....just WOW!
